Established in 1955, son Arnaud Germain now heads up this small family domaine comprised of 10 hectares in Saint-Romain, as well as select plots plots in Pommard and Beaune.
Their state-of-the-art winery, built in 2019 at the top of the village, is a huge asset in enhancing precision at harvest and in the cellar.
Here’s what the Germains have to say about this wine:
Deep red, dark crimson ruby with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, redcurrant and cherry-stone. It is not uncommon for it to evolve towards feline (ed. – errrr, has this got lost in translation?! We didn’t detect any ‘cattiness’), wild notes over time. With maturity these develop into leather, chocolate, pepper notes.
A wine that you should let age (ed. – We reckon about 8 years+) so that it opens to its full extent and displays its mouth-filled texture, its delicate yet firm structure, its fruity mouthfeel and its chewy tannins, which will be properly smoothed by then.
Its massive, dense tannins make this masculine wine from Côte de Beaune the ideal wine to serve with wild meats. Game animals and birds, braised or roasted, will find a perfect pairing in this Pommard. Beef steaks, lamb will also enjoy the firm texture of its tannins and its concentrated aromas. It also goes well with strong-flavoured cheeses.
