A fabulous wine from Villa la Ripa in Arezzo. David visited this estate in November 2014 and was very impressed. Saverrio Luzzi is a charming and energetic man and his renaissance villa is spectacular. It sits on the site of a Roman villa occupied by a general called Peconio in 500BC. He is a psychiatrist and a neuro-scientist which takes up a lot of his time but his other passion is his small holding of vineyards.
Although in the Chianti denomination and 100% Sangiovese, Severrio considers his wines to be better than just Chianti so chooses to use the lesser denomination and not be tarred with the same stick.
After careful picking and fermentation 30% is refined for 4-6 months in French oak barrels. The remainder is aged in stainless steel tanks, then 6 months in bottle.
We are pleased that our friend Dario as added this to his list and now keeps some in the UK all the time rather than shipping a few cases just for us now and again.
